Character history
Matthew "Matt" McNamara , was raised as the son of Julia and Sean McNamara, even though his real father was Christian Troy, a man he considered uncle. Matt has two half-sisters, Annie (whose father is Sean and his mother is Julia) and Emme Lowell (a Christian princess with a woman named Darlene Lowell) and younger half-brother, Conor (Sean and Julia's son). He was about 16 years old at the start of the first season of the event. Though he was not as rogue as early as it was, it was implied that he was a hoodlain in his early years, as Sean told Christian, "I've spent too many years trying to castrate your bad genetics."
Season One
Matt worries about sex with his girlfriend, Vanessa, and possibly his reaction to his foreskin. He told his parents that he wanted to have circumcision; Sean refused to perform the procedure, telling Matt that there was nothing wrong with being uncircumcised. However, when Vanessa is turned off, Matt decides to circumcise himself after reading the 'way guides' on the Internet. Not surprisingly, his efforts were wrong and Sean and Christian were forced to perform the operation properly. After the operation, Matt discovers that Vanessa is not turned off by her foreskin but is actually a lesbian and having an affair with a popular cheerleader, Ridley. When Ridley shows signs of wanting to end their affair, Vanessa asks Matt to do a threesome with them to keep Ridley interested. Threesomes continues, until Sean and Julia find out and have family interventions with Ridley and Vanessa's parents. A few weeks later, Matt and his friend, Henry, attack and run under the influence of marijuana. Both covered their involvement, but both grew attached to the victim, an outsider whose strict Christian Scientist mother would not allow her to undergo the surgery necessary to repair the wound.
Season Two
Henry was arrested and charged with hit-and-run, and Matt testified against him in court, claiming he was not in the car at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, Sean and Julia worry about her attitude and ask her to visit life coach Ava Moore. As part of a trust exercise, Ava asks Matt to take a nude photograph, and then offers her a sexual relationship in return for a good value. Matt and Ava sleep together, and Matt discovers that he has a teenage son, Adrian. Meanwhile, Sean, Julia, and Christian all found duplicate and dangerous nature of Ava, and Christian took it himself (because recently he found Matt's biological father) to try to keep him away from him after catching him masturbating outside the window. Matt finally found the truth about his paternity, destroying his relationship with Sean. Adrian begins to display disruptive behavior (derived from his incestuous relationship with Ava) and escapes from home, while Matt wants to escape with Ava to Paris, France. Sean, Julia and Christian found that Ava was a transsexual MTF and in return for improved vaginal surgery, Ava promised to leave Matt. As he packs up, Adrian appears and kills himself in front of Ava, who leaves his body and fled to Paris.
Season Three
Matt finds Adrian's body and discovers that Ava was once a man, pushing him to the edge of total madness. She visited the transsexual bar and picked up a woman named Cherry Peck. When he discovers that he is a pre-op transsexual, he physically attacks him. To take revenge, Cherry and his friends chase after Matt and after they beat him, they urinate him. Before the incident, Matt shaved his head and mocked Sean. Sean hit Matt, so he filed an arrest warrant against his father. The court order was later canceled, but Sean and Matt continued to be in bad shape. Matt starts dating Ariel Alderman who, along with his entire family, is a Neo-Nazi. Matt watched as Ariel whitened his skin and listened to his racist convictions. Meanwhile, Cherry comes to McNamara/Troy and asks them to fix his failed plastic surgery for free, as Matt hit him. Sean was against him, when Cherry and his friends attacked him as well. Having enlightenment, Matt encouraged Sean to operate at Cherry and he befriended him. Everything spun out of control when Alderman's family found Matt and Cherry together and kidnapped them. Ariel's father, Mr. Alderman, forcing Matt to cut his penis, or Cherry. Cherry tells Matt that it's okay, and Matt might cut it off. Mr. Alderman then pushes Matt and Cherry into the desert outside Miami and forces Matt to bury Cherry alive. But Matt stood in front of him. Alderman was at gunpoint and Cherry hit Mr Alderman from behind with a shovel, then shot him.
Season Four
After last year's traumatic events, Matt had trouble facing and took turns practicing as an outlet while isolating himself from everyone. Revealed that Mr. Alderman survived the attack and is currently in jail. Matt runs to Kimber Henry at the gym, and learns about his religion about Scientology. Hoping that religion would help him overcome his mistakes, he joined - but soon became a reason to see Kimber. Kimber encouraged Matt to move from McNamara's home because it became "poisoned", and eventually cleared the side of the road as part of his religious training. After being rejected by Christian, Kimber tries to get back to sleep with Matt. A few weeks later, Matt and Kimber told Sean and Christian that they were married and expecting a baby. The couple moved together and Matt filmed a porn movie with her in an attempt to spice up their sex life. Matt confesses to Sean that he knows Kimber just married her to return to Christianity, but he really loves her.
Season Five
Matt appeared in Los Angeles with a newborn, Jenna. He claims that he is now poor because Kimber gave all their money to Scientology, and that he has left it. Actually, this is just a ruse to earn money to pay for Kimber's addiction and shake it for meth. Kimber tried to return to the porn industry, but was shot down by producer Ram Peters out of habit. However, he wants Matt in a gay porn movie after seeing the size of his penis in his homemade porn movie they made last year. Matt is willing to do the movie, until Kimber stops him. After stopping using drugs through Scientology, Kimber agrees to discard Matt in exchange for surgery on a damaged face and tooth. Kimber told Matt that he never loved her and moved on with Ram, bringing Jenna with him. Matt then confronts Christians about it. The Christian is angry and does not recognize him until he grows up. Feeling devastated, Matt turns into meth and accidentally blows up the motel where he lives, causing severe burns on his body. While resting at the hospital, Matt binds to his burning counselor, Rachel Ben Natan, who left a horrible wound when a terrorist in his native Israel exploded next to him. Matt and Rachel start dating, until Rachel ends everything because she can not see the future with her. Matt yells at him for being "picky," and that he should consider himself lucky with him. Matt meets with one of the Christian patients, the southern girl Emme Lowell, and sleeps with her. Matt and Emme felt a relationship they had never felt before. This is explained when Emme revealed that she came to Los Angeles to find her real father: Christian Troy. Matt and Emme are honest with their parents about their love, and are told to end it all immediately. Emme plans to return home, but despite his feelings Matt made the right decision and let him go. While assisting Sean with his physical therapy, Matt revealed that he wanted to go to medicine, and that he took a pre-med course at a local college. A few episodes later, Matt realized he just wanted to play a doctor on television, and into acting.
Season Six
In the premier six season, Matt tells Sean and Christian that he has taken a miming class and plans to appear as a pantomime as a livelihood. Christian publicly booed Matt for this and told him to get a real job. After a horrible day in which he was robbed of the little money he earned and stereo - Matt reached his peak point when he tried to buy coffee from the coffee shop employees and pull out a fake gun that scared the employee, and he handed over all the money on the list. Matt then decides to use this disguise to rob another place; he was eventually known as "The Mime" after robbing several stores.
After being released from the line-up by the police (the witness failed to identify Matt) and interrogated by his father who had been suspicious of his new fortune, Matt just became more reckless and arrogant with his criminal life style. However, he was badly injured while trying to rob another department store when the officer took out his rifle and fired it at him. He made it to a Christian place and collapsed on the floor; he took off his jacket and showed that he was badly injured. After treating Matt's injuries, Julia, Sean and Christian realize that despite all their efforts, Matt is just an evil person who will never change (with Christians who seem to regard him as the worst, blame the immoral father and rapist for passing the gene -gener it on) and that he should be handed over to the police.
Matt, who hears Julia and Christian speaking, immediately goes after and barges into Kimber's house to see his daughter. Kimber caught him, and upon learning that he was going to Mexico, he begged to go with him. However, in a truck stop, Matt meets Christian who tells him that Kimber helped slow him down long enough for Christian to find him and begs him to surrender. Matt pulls out the gun and shoots it at Christian to pull it out (the spin crashes the driver's side window). Matt goes but injures his seams and calls Sean, who comes to his aid. After sewing his son, Matt goes and finds the police and Christians waiting outside. Matt was handcuffed and read his Miranda Rights when he was taken to a patrol car.
At the urging of her grandmother Erica, imprisoned Matt decides to be a witness in connection with Sean and Julia being unworthy parents after Erica decides to petition for custody of Annie and Connor after Sean's suicide attempt. He also urges Matt to be a "prison prostitute" to survive inside, because he believes he will not survive otherwise. When Christian went to the prison to visit Matt, he was greeted by Matt's cellmate, who planned to turn Matt into a "bitch" in exchange for his protection, and told Christian that Matt had agreed to get a breast implant. A shocked Christian left, and made an appointment with the warden to move Matt to another cell (selling his beloved boat to collect enough money), but Matt's former cell mate was moved as well and cruelly defeated Matt. Visiting Matt at the prison hospital, Christian refused to perform an operation on Matt but offered him another option; anesthetized his cellmate with drugs used for chemical castration (thus making it impossible to rape Matt). This worked for a while, until Matt accidentally dropped the bottle (which was hidden in a hollowed book) and his cellmate realized what had happened to him. He tries to rape Matt with the plunger in the cell, and Matt fights back by kicking him in the testicle and then strangling him with the lingerie his cellmate buys him for.
Moments later, in exchange for liposuction on the super-death penalty convict, Wesley Clovis (to ensure that the execution succeeds), Sean and Christian make a deal that Matt will be released from prison early. As the execution got closer, the other inmates confronted Matt and told him that Clovis was innocent. When Matt is released in preparation for execution, he begins to tell Sean and Christian about Clovis's innocence. However, realizing that this revelation would sacrifice his freedom, Matt quickly changed his mind, saying instead that he thought Clovis was sick, distracted, had no chance for rehabilitation, and that executing him was the right thing to do. Clovis was executed and an evil and immoral Matt was released from prison.
Matt went to work at the carpet shop after being released from prison, where he fell in love with the manager, Ramona. During the therapy sessions with Christian and Sean, Matt and Ramona tell them they will get married soon, and that Matt does not want to see them again.
Everything looks fine between Matt and Ramona until Ava returns to Matt's life in the second episode from behind. On the couple's wedding day, Matt gets a text message and goes outside, where Ava waits in the limo. They threw him out at Sean's watch.
In the final episode of the series, Matt tells Sean and Christian that he and Ava plan to go to Brazil to find a suitable surgeon to operate on Raphael, Ava's adopted son. Christian then meets Ava and tells him that he will perform the operation, as long as he ends his relationship with Matt and leaves. Ava says that she loves Matt, but Christian believes she's just using him.
Later, while Christian and Sean perform the operation, Ava tells Matt that she does not want anything to do with him and that she never loves him. This destroys Matt. After the surgery is complete, Ava leaves Raphael when he learns that he will have a permanent scarring of the procedure.
That night, Matt went to Christian's apartment to pick up his daughter, where he had a discussion with Christian about what it meant to be a father. Christian tells him that it means sacrificing everything for your kids, and that he does not think Matt can do that. Matt says that he knows he can be a good father, and that he wants to make Christians proud of him. Matt tricks Christian in allowing him to go with his daughter, Jenna, by lying and saying he and his ex fiancee, Ramona, will marry and become family. Actually (as the viewer sees during his story to Christianity), Ramona scolds Matt for blowing him up, spitting on him.
Finally, as Ava prepares to leave, Matt approaches her at the airport. He says he has bought a ticket and that he wants to go with him. Ava still says that she does not love him, but Matt says he can see the "smoke" in his eyes. She tells him that even though she's been messing up, Jenna is a very nice princess, and she needs a good mother that she can see. She also goes on to say that she always loves her and will always love her. Ava agrees to be with Matt. The three of them then look up the escalator, preparing to start living together.
