Sinopsis

While Lowell is commonly known for his central role in the Industrial Revolution as the first planned textile city in the United States, the city has fallen on tough times since the factories left town in the early 1920s. Wang Laboratories, a large corporation in Lowell in the more prosperous 1980s, declared bankruptcy and completely out of business in the early 1990s. Lowell in 1993 has a large percentage of the population who are unemployed or underemployed, poor, and unaffected by positive things in a city like Lowell National Historical Park and The Lowell Folk Festival (founded 1990). Most of the films took place in the lower class section of the Highlands (Lower) area, documenting a period of nearly 18 months, with 1993 being the main focus.

This documentary frames the lives of three addicts with this background; especially their hopeless situation, while exploring them as human beings. The film reveals the life behind addiction: their aspirations, why they use drugs and why they do not stop, etc. It interviews family, friends, and members of their community, discusses how drugs have destroyed the lives of addicts. Richard Farrell, one of the directors, writers and producers, is a native of Lowellian and a former addict; allowing crew to access deeply into the city's drug scene.

The filmmakers followed about three people: Boo Boo, Brenda, and former professional boxer Dicky Eklund in their daily activities to be tall.

Along the way the documentary film, Brenda, a prostitute, becomes pregnant and contemplates abortion but has to "hook" to pay for the abortion. Whenever he gets enough money, he punishes him with drugs instead of getting a $ 395 abortion. The father could be he's another girlfriend again, Mike (who does not want you in the building) or dad might, in fact, be Boo Boo, which he says has made it out. Brenda also tried to rehabilitate detox for the baby, but after talking with her parents decided to cancel, then do the detoxification, then go home. Brenda's ambivalence about aborting a baby into a big sub-plot in the movie, when she shared that her parents forced her to have an abortion at age 15 and it was a "nightmare" for her, and she felt like she "killed" her baby. At one point he got into the detox, but he lost the desire to finish the program and walk out, as he did 6 times before.

Brenda eventually disappears, launching Boo Boo into panic as she searches across Lowell, including filling out missing persons report with police. The police finally found him, but could not tell Boo Boo his location, as he wished, just saying that he was alive and well and "he has a child and straightened his life, but did not want to reveal his current location." After this, it is unclear what the situation is. He just disappeared.

Dicky is a boxer who at one time had a promising career as a boxer and has fought Sugar Ray Leonard, lost by decision after 10 rounds, and has been trying to make a comeback. For the sake of his young son, he tries to prevent his habit - and the evil he does to feed him - from ruining his life, but he can never be clean and finally caught with various allegations of violence. While awaiting trial, her mother attempted to collect a security deposit with benefits at the local VFW. During the fights between the audience and the $ 5,000 bail was not raised.

After Brenda leaves the area, Boo Boo's drug habit gets worse and she starts shooting cocaine intravenously. She then tested for HIV and found her positive. It acts as a catalyst to change his life. She stopped using for several months, joined an HIV support group and got a job working as an introduction at a local donut shop called Eat-A-Donut, where she was well liked and they really felt she was reliable. He began to reopen contact with his family. However, it all fell apart again because he lost his job when he was stopped by the police for a minor traffic violation and it revealed he was driving without a license. He spends the next day getting taller with Dicky, because Dicky's last day out before going to jail for 10 to 15 years.

The documentary ends with Boo Boo discussing how he is the only member of the three remaining. Dicky is in jail and Brenda is gone. Boo Boo wished she was okay with her new life with her baby as she sucked on her pipe.

In closing credits, it was revealed that 6 months after the filming, Boo Boo was still in Lowell with a habit of cracking $ 200 a day, Dicky would not qualify for parole for at least 4 more years (in 1999), and Brenda died. of drug overdose before the release of the film.
