Histori

Quill Corporation is the result of ideas by Jack Miller. In 1956, with a loan of $ 2,000 from the office of Jack's first father-in-law Quill was set up in the back room of Miller's father's poultry shop on Chicago's north side. Initially lacking retail experience, young entrepreneurs rely heavily on face-to-face sales techniques to drive revenue. With the help of Jack's brother Harvey, both developed their marketing strategies to include mail-order campaigns that attract potential customers at discounted and free shipping - turning Quill Corporation into one of the first mail-order companies in the United States. In 1974, Quill reported annual sales of $ 3.5 million. During the early and mid-1980s, the company's revenues reached $ 180 million in 1986. Its mail order business was the most successful in the office supply market, with over 40 million catalogs and leaflets delivered to a customer base of about 600,000 businesses and organizations, and registering more than 9,000 various office supplies and products. In 1996, the company launched the Quill.com website. In 1998, Quill Corporation was acquired by Staples, Inc. for approximately $ 685 million. Jack Miller took advantage of Quill's sales to create the Jack Miller Center.

Acquisitions

On April 7, 1998, Staples, Inc. issued a press release showing the plan to acquire Quill Corporation for a purchase price of $ 685 million in a combination of approximately 30 million fixed shares and price variables. This acquisition will help Staples increase its presence in the office product market partly because of Quill's success in the sale of office supplies for businesses, an area that previously accounted for only 20 percent (about $ 1 billion) of Staples' total revenue in 1997. After the transaction, Quill will keep the office its center in Lincolnshire, Illinois, along with its name and management.

In July 2002, Medical Arts Press became a subsidiary of Quill when Staples, Inc. bought a company based in Minneapolis for $ 385 million. Since 1950, Medical Arts Press has been helping health care practices meet their unique front office supply needs. Medical Arts Press brings the largest selection in the archiving industry and general office supplies, 100% government-compliant forms, code books, office furniture, printed patient communications and gifts, ink and toner, breakroom supplies and more.

In addition to the acquisition of Medical Arts Press, Quill also acquired SmileMakers and Hayes Marketing Inc. (HMI). Both provide creative products to help build patient loyalty and promote practice with free stuff, promotional postcards, greeting cards, and more.
