Mel Giedroyc (born June 15, 1968) and Sue Perkins (born September 22, 1969), known collectively as Mel and Sue , are comedy Britain's best known double act for hosting the BAFTA Award-winning BBC One cooking series The Great British Bake Off . Previously they hosted their lunch chats Light Lunch and Final Lunch on Channel 4.

Mel and Sue met at a comedy show in 1988 while two students at Cambridge University in England (Giedroyc at Trinity College and Perkins in New Hall) where both were members of the Footlights. They made their debut with The Naked Lunch, after which they took their show Planet Pussycat to the Edinburgh Festival. Giedroyc recalled their early partnership: "We did very well, we did some really bad performances by sketching two people, and Sue would agree, but because she's a year younger than me, we never know each other well until after college We both got a very bad degree, and I failed to get into any drama school, so I gave him a ring and said, 'Do you want to write something for the Weekend? ' "

1990s
This couple's television breakthrough appeared in France & amp; Saunders shows a sketch, in which they appear together in several episodes. Mel and Sue gained widespread popularity in March 1997 when they launched a lunch talk show on Channel 4, Light Lunch, where celebrity chefs cook lunch for duo celebrity guests. The show returned for the second series in 1998.
The duo was then moved to the prime-time night slot and the event was renamed to Late Lunch in 1999. & lt;/ref & gt;
In 1999, Mel and Sue were signed by ITV and hosted a comedy panel game for a network called Casting Couch , in the late night slot, but fared poorly in the rankings and was not unveiled after the initial 6- episode. ITV created Casting Couch as a vehicle to showcase Mel and Sue's comedic talents as a duo. In each episode, the couple formed two teams under the guidance of team captains Chris Moyles and Tamara Beckwith, with regular guest celebrities Marcus Brigstocke and Kevin Day, and two guest celebrities.
2000s
Mel and Sue were announced as the new co-presenter on the TV's breakfast show RI: SE Channel 4 in January 2003. The couple appeared together again with Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders in French & amp; Saunders Mamma Mia comedy sketch for Comic Relief in 2009.
2010s
Perkins confirmed on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross that the duo will work together on something new in 2010. Their new show, the roasting competition series, The Great British Bake Off , started on BBC Two in August 2010. The show lasted for four series until it was transferred to BBC One for the fifth series in 2014 and the sixth in 2015.
In January 2015, Mel and Sue unveiled a new ITV daytime chat event called Mel and Sue , featuring an appearance of celebrity guests, audience interactions, and cuisine, this time with community members nominated to appear as the guest chef.
In September 2016, when it was announced that Great British Bats will be moved to Channel 4 in 2017, Mel and Sue say they will not be part of a moving channel and resign as host of the event after the edition to -7.
In October 2016, it was confirmed that Mel and Sue will be the presenter of Let's Sing and Dance for Comic Relief for BBC One in March 2017. On July 23, 2017, it was confirmed that Mel and Sue will host a new version of The Generation Game for BBC One.

Mel and Sue's juxtaposed radio credits including their BBC Radio 2 show, Mel and Sue's Comedy Breakdown, a six-part series that explores the best comedy, and BBC Radio 4, The Mel and Sue Thing >, a six-part series that premiered in 2002 and later released on BBC CD.
Live events
As well as performing live as a duo on their early day stands, Mel and Sue embarked on a nationwide tour of England from 1995 to 1996. When they appeared in Room 101 together, one of their choices was one of their dates from this tour. - at Leighton Buzzard. They chose this because of the fact that they had a bad audience there. After their television career went well, in April and May 1999 they toured the country again with their performances, Mel & amp; Sue: Back to Our Route which is "a funny stage show that captures the submersive brilliance of their great TV show" matches the promotional material of the event. One reviewer commented: "Mel and Sue on stage are almost the same as TV incarnations, unless they have no guests."
