Egging is an egg throwing action to a home, car, or person. Egging is a criminal offense in most areas. Eggs are usually raw, but sometimes hard or rotten.
Egging is sometimes associated with certain events and holidays. For example, in parts of Britain and the United States, 31st October is referred to as "Mischief Night", when a naughty teenager rubs a bar of soap in a car window, throws eggs at home, decorates a tree with toilet paper, and runs away after ringing the doorbell.. In some areas of Queens, New York, "Cabbage Night" involved throwing rotten fruits to various neighbors, cars, and buses.

During the 2004 Ukrainian presidential election, candidate Viktor Yanukovych was rushed to hospital after he was hit with an egg (while government officials claim he was hit by a brick), which became the source of ridicule. Former Brazil president Luiz InÃÆ'ácio da Silva has eggs and stones thrown at his bus by protesters as he visits southern Brazil.
In other cultures
In Brazil it's common to throw eggs at someone on their birthday, with or without their consent, as a friendly joke. Usually, wheat flour is also poured into the person's head along with the egg, with the idea of ââa cake being made over their head.
The tradition dates back to the 1980s, but its main origin is in Mexico, where it is common to break the "cascarones" (eggshells) on a person's head at their birthday party as a lucky oath. The eggs are usually filled with confetti and stained with dye or crayon.
Famous in Brazil the people heralded on their birthdays include Guarani midfielder FC Josà © à © Fernando Fumagalli, who has eggs and wheat flour thrown at him on his 40th birthday in 2017, along with his eventual retirement announcement.
