Program
The show centered on Clarissa Dickson Wright and Jennifer Paterson, traveling around the UK for most episodes, except for an episode in Ireland and a special Christmas in Jamaica, on a Triumph Thunderbird motorcycle piloted by Paterson. This sports registration N88 TFL (British bingo call for number 88 is "Two Fat Woman") and has a Jubilee GP-700 "doublewide" Watsonian Jubilee where Dickson Wright rises. They travel to different destinations, such as army garrisons and girls' schools, where they prepare large meals, often with unusual ingredients.
Uncle Paterson, Anthony Bartlett, was Gentiluomo of the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster, and several episodes were recorded at Westminster Cathedral and Irish monastery. While cooking at Westminster Cathedral, Paterson cooks original dishes, Peaches Cardinal Hume . In the same episode, Dickson Wright demonstrates bubble and squeak recipe using two ounces of pork fat, which he insists is the only fat besides dripping beef that can be hot enough to produce the recipe as it should be produced. Similarly, the recipe for spatchcock buttered saw the chicken covered with a layer of thick butter, bread and more butter on the bread. Such recipes lead to criticism by some who consider it a bad influence on the British diet.
Optomen Television says this, as if in response to their criticism: "The Ladies are chefs instead of chefs - they reject the pretensions and elaboration of haute dishes and are aggressively outdated, happy with ingredients like cream, lard and fatty meats."

Theme song
Paterson and Dickson Wright sing their own theme song written by composer Pete Baikie, and Paterson often sings songs during the show, after introducing an apple pan dowdy with a stanza of the song Shoo-Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy ( and incorrectly linked the song with The Andrews Sisters). They enjoy cooking in great locations, such as at Lennoxlove House near Edinburgh.
Health issues
Both Paterson and Dickson Wright are not affected by fat or calories. Paterson also smokes heavily and, at one point, takes the opportunity to go out for a cigarette while enjoying a dish cooked in the oven. Most episodes end up with her smoking a cigarette and consuming an aperitif. Several times the reference was made to the fact that Dickson Wright, an alcoholic, no longer drinks alcoholic beverages.
Deaths
Paterson died of cancer on August 10, 1999, one month after diagnosis. The day before he died, he asked Dickson Wright to bring him a can of caviar, but when Dickson Wright arrived at the hospital, Paterson was dead. Dickson Wright says that after Paterson's funeral, he eats caviar as a tribute to his friend. Dickson Wright died at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on March 15, 2014.
