Histori
The land was first surveyed by Thomas Browne, known as the "Patuxent Ranger", in 1700. In the mid-1700s Richard Snowden, Quaker's grandson of one of Maryland's first iron ore producers, bought a land tract in the Patuxent River valley. Fulton came to be known as Queen Caroline Parish. In 1803 Rezin Hammond settled on a plot of land, and in 1805 Fulton became known as Hammond Directions and Snowden Second Addition. In 1855 German immigrants settled in the area.
In 1871, the Lutheran St. Paul was founded to serve the German agricultural community and expanded it in 1933. In 1878 Fulton opened the home school # 3, a one-room schoolhouse for white children half a mile west of the city that operated until 1939. The area is referred to as " Water's Store ", for the surgery of Richard Water's blacksmith and post office which opened on December 29, 1874.
The name was changed to "Fulton", after Charles Fox's popular editor Charles C. Fulton on March 28, 1882. Albert W. Bradey bought his father's Fulton corner store and Smallwood, operating it until death in a home fire at age 90 years.
In 1839, Heinrich Iager bought 108 hectares (44 hectares) of farmland that expanded to 185 hectares (75 hectares) to form Maple Lawn Farms. In 1938, the farm started its short-range turkey operation under the brand name "Sho-Nuf". This farm was recognized nationally in 2004 for registered Holsteins used in its processed product operations. Agricultural Iager Ellsworth took advantage of cheap POW labor through 1945.
In the late 1990s, Fulton sat among the highly developed areas of eastern Howard County, with water and sewage services, and a preserved western area that uses well water. Greenebaum & amp; Rose Associates proposed 1,168 units of solid mixed use projects for some 506 hectares of land (205 hectares). In January 1998, Councilor Darrell Drown felt that the zoning would only take one or two nights, and accommodate the developer with an accelerated audience. The first phase of the zonation faced some controversial voices and 32 long-standing hearings between pro-development and rural supporters.
In 2013, the Department of Planning and Zoning of the Howard Territory seeks to expand water and sewage services so that the remaining Maple Lawn property can be developed at maximum density. A 7,000-person referendum effort was launched and pressed by landowning lawyer William Erskine, who sits at the economic development agency and the same law firm as County Executive Ken Ulman's father.
Historic historic places of worship include the Grace Community Church, St. Catholic Church. Francis of Assisi, and St. Lutheran Church. Paul, built in the 1870s by a group of mostly German families after initially meeting in their respective homes since the 1860s.
