Company history
Clean Comedians were founded in 1990 largely as an alternative to comics and entertainers like Andrew Dice Clay and Howard Stern who use profanity extensively in their looks. Adam Christing noticed the trend of a more vulgar comedian and felt like there would be a sizeable market for players who were free from the curse. Christing compiled "10 Comedy Commands," which is basically a "clean" guide for players offered to meeting planners and events. He will then compile "NO G.R.O.S.S." pledges that players can not include gender bashing, racist racism, obscenity, sexual innuendo, or oaths in their actions. This guide should be followed by entertainers displayed on the list of Clean Comedians
The company started off with a small number of players including Christing, Cary Trivanovich, Scott Wood, Guy Owen, Jason Chase, and impersonator Steve Bridges. The company generated about $ 100,000 in its first year of operations and about $ 200,000 in the second year. The various entertainers and artists are mostly done (and continue to do) for corporate events, associations, sales meetings, and for major church events. In 1996, the company was granted a federal trademark for the name "Clean Comedians" for recording and to order live performances.
In 1999, the company had an active list of 49 players and thousands of client bookings. They gave over 640 shows that year. In addition to standard performances, Clean Comedians also provide fundraising opportunities for many schools and nonprofit organizations.
In 2005, Christing sold Clean Comedians to Ford Entertainment to pursue other entrepreneurial ventures. He will eventually return as the owner and president of the company in 2012. During his tenure, the company has also booked performances and appearances for conventions and events at major companies such as Canon, Johnson & Johnson, Insperity, and HP. Maps Clean Comedians
