Acura is a luxury car from Japanese carmaker Honda. The brand was launched in the United States and Canada in March 1986, marketing luxury, performance, and high performance vehicles. It was introduced to Hong Kong in 1991, Mexico in 2004, China in 2006, Russia in 2014 and Kuwait in 2015, and also sold in Ukraine. Honda's plans to introduce Acura into Japan's domestic market (JDM) in 2008 were delayed, due to economic reasons, and then kept secret as a result of the 2008 financial crisis.
Acura holds the distinction of being the first Japanese automotive luxury brand. The creation of Acura coincides with the introduction of Honda dealer JDM sales channel, called Honda Clio, which sells luxury vehicles, joined Honda Verno which was established earlier, followed by Honda Primo the following year. In the first few years of its existence, Acura is among the best-selling marques in the US. Although sales fell in the mid to late 1990s, the brand experienced a revival in the early 2000s, due to the drastic redesign and introduction of new models.
In the late 1980s, the success of the company's first flagship vehicle, The Legend, inspired fellow Japanese automotive companies, Toyota and Nissan to launch their respective luxury brands, Lexus and Infiniti. The launch of NSX 1990, an exotic mid-engine sports car, offers a reliable and practical alternative to exotic European sports cars, and introduces Honda's VTEC valve timing system to the North American market. The Legends of Legend 1993 showcases Honda's first use of a six-speed manual transmission, mated to a Type II engine. In the late 1990s, Acura produced a Type R version of Integra's compact coupe, featuring weight reduction, a more rigid and lower suspension, and a high output VTEC engine.
In the early 2000s, Acura introduced new models, including the company's first all-original SUV, MDX, and two models that replaced the Integra coupes and sedans, RSX and TSX, respectively. The Type-S versions of RSX, CL, and TL were added to the brand lineup over the decade. Acura's 2005 RL flagship introduces the SH-AWD, an all-wheel drive torque drive system. RDX 2007, a crossover SUV, featuring the first use of a turbocharged Honda engine in North America. In 2010, Acura debuted more new models, including ILX, TLX, and RLX, the latter of which introduced the Acura Jewel Eye LED light from Acura. The second generation NSX is launched in 2016 and is equipped with twin-turbocharged mid-engine, nine-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the SH-AWD Sport Hybrid.

Histori
1980s: Pengenalan merek Acura
This brand was made around the same time as Japanese rivals Nissan and Toyota developed their premium brand Infiniti and Lexus. The Japanese government imposed restrictions on voluntary exports for the US market, making it more profitable for Japanese carmakers to export more expensive cars to the US.
After a decade of research, Honda opened 60 new dealerships in North America in 1986, to support the Acura car division. Acura is the first Japanese luxury brand, introduced with the slogan, "Acura. Precision Crafted Automobiles." The offer initially consists of two models: the executive class Legend and the Integra compact class, available as a five-door and three-door hatchback. The Legend is the result of Project XX, a joint venture undertaken by Honda with the Rover Group in the UK. It's mechanically linked to the Rover 800 series, while Integra is an enhancement of Honda Quint hatchback.
The success of these models, especially Legend, led to the competition of Japanese luxury brands (Toyota Lexus, which started development in 1983 as an F1 project, and Nissan Infiniti began development in 1985 by revising their only Nissan Nissan Japan in the late 1990s Mazda is planned but never launches luxury division Amati itself). The goal of the Legend is to compete with rivals Toyota Crown and Nissan Cedric and Gloria, but since its introduction worldwide in 1986, Toyota, Nissan and other companies like Lincoln noticed market reactions to Legend and then Vigor and offered vehicles intended for cars executive size. Toyota introduced the Lexus ES, Nissan introduced the Infiniti J30 and Ford utilizing the Taurus platform and named their new Lincoln Continental sedan.
In 1987, the first full year of Acura sales, they sold 109,000 cars with legendary legendary accounting sedans for 55,000 sales and the rest of the smaller Integra. In 1990, Acura sold 138,000 vehicles, including 54,000 Legends, compared to 78,000 Mercedes-Benz cars and 64,000 respectively for BMW and Lexus.
1990s: NSX
In 1990, five years after the debut of Legend and Integra, Acura introduced the NSX, a mid-road V6 powered sports car. NSX, the acronym for "New Sports eXperimental", billed as the first Japanese automaker to compete with Ferrari and Porsche. This vehicle serves as a "picture car" for the Honda and Acura brands, touting the introduction of Honda's VTEC technology. The NSX is the world's first aluminum production car, and is also marketed and viewed by some as the "Everyday Supercar" in part thanks to the ease of use, quality and reliability, features unheard of in the supercar segment at the time. With the release of NSX, Acura introduced "A-badge", a pair of paired calipers - a tool used for precise measurements to imply that an Acura vehicle is built to exact and demanding standards.
Despite a strong start in market acceptance for the Acura brand, sales suffered in the mid to late 1990s. Some critics attribute this decline in part to a less inspirational design, which is a Japanese Honda brand, such as Acura Vigor in 1992. In addition, during this time Acura switched to alphanumeric nomenclature formula, dropped the Legend, Semangat and Integra titles, following the NSX sportscar. The 1996 3.5 RL, which replaced the popular Legend, and Vigour into TL 2.5 and 3.2 TL, and is considered by many to be the epitome of this problem, namely because of the more anonymous alphanumeric designations of the former Legend, Vigor and Integra titles, who had grown into their own cult.
The parent company, Honda, also felt the result of Japan's economic downturn, due to the asset price bubble of Japan that occurred during the 1990s and into the 2000s. This period is known in Japan as The Lost Decade.
During this time, the NSX also lost sales because Acura made some changes from its original 1990 trim. A year later, the Integra sedan was withdrawn from the Canadian market, replaced by the exclusive Acura 1.6 EL market, the rejuvenated Honda Civic/Domani. The Integra sedan continued to be sold in the United States until 2001 (only in name, model replaced with, RSX, only left-back-motion version of JDM DC5 Honda Integra).
Apart from this disappointment, Acura became famous in the 1990s with a group of young customers: a fan of "tuners". The reputation of Honda's parent company with this demographic as engine maker "easy-to-tune" and "rev-happy" rubs into Acura, and Integra becomes a popular tuner car.

2000-2003: TL , CL, RSX, MDX
Beginning around 2000, Acura experienced a rebirth catalyzed by the introduction of some redesigned models. The first of these models is the 1999 Acura 3.2 TL, the upscale sedan. Critics suggest that although the 3.2 TL does not outperform its competitors in one of the luxury car areas, it offers a blend of sporty and ultimate luxury. This characteristic, combined with the competitive price of TL, proved very popular among consumers. The next Acura model has followed the same philosophy by offering many standard equipment and very few options.
Other fresh acura introduced in the early 2000s was the MDX, a popular three-line crossover SUV based on the Honda Odyssey minivan. MDX replaces SLX slow sales, a little more than Isuzu Trooper rebadged. MDX is a car-like crossover SUV with limited off-road capability that caters to the demand of the luxury SUV market. It was awarded the highest honors by Car and Driver in the first comparison test against seven other SUVs. Other cars in the Acura line-up so far include 3.2 TL, 3.2 CL, RSX (formerly Integra hatchback), and NSX. By the end of the 2000s, Acura had revoked the number of engine displacements in its allotment, maintaining a simpler two or three letter designation (eg 3.5 RL to RL). TL 1999-2003 has been hit by transmission and other problems.
In 2001, a new coupe, characterized by RSX introduced on the Acura line up. It was a substitute for Integra out. RSX is a reduced Honda Integra (DC5) from the Japanese market. As a result, RSX is technically a new generation of Integra out. Just like Integra, RSX became a hit in the tuner market. However, at the end of 2006, RSX was taken from the Acura line, then in the Japanese market as well. It is unknown why RSX does not continue to be sold as Integra in Japan; however, the reason that Acura gives for RSX cancellations is that Acura wants to ride in luxury brands, so it can not sell cars that are mostly driven by teenagers.
2004-2006: RL, TSX, RDX
The new TL debuted for the 2004 model, featuring sharp, Italian style and V6 270Ã, hp (200Ã, kW) measured by SAE standards back then. The new TL increased sales dramatically to 70,943 US units in 2005.
Also around the same time Acura TSX was introduced. Basically Honda's European and Japanese markets are burdened back Honda Accord is full of features. This model became the only 4-cylinder sedan in Acura's line-up (with the exception of the Canadian market Acura CSX, which replaced the EL in 2006).
In 2005, the new RL was introduced with 300Ã, hp (220Ã, kW) V6, improved styling, and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD), a system capable of sending almost any RL power to just one wheel in a Bend. The second generation of RL appeared on the Ten Best Car and Driver list for 2005, and also collected CNET.com's "Editor Choices". When RL was introduced, it did not see Acura being on par with German rivals and expecting more value than Japanese marque Damage from Honda's historic suspicion Japan has been done, although Honda Canada has reduced the price of RL.
Acura's new models - primarily TL and TSX - were well received by the automotive press and became Acura's top selling vehicle. TSX is on the list of Car and Driver " s Ten Best from 2004-2006.
In 2006 Acura introduced a small SUV based on a unique unibody chassis called RDX with a model available to US consumers in August 2006. It is powered by a 240-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and, like the RL, uses the Acura SH-AWD System. This model is available in two versions: Premium (standard offer), and Technology Package (enhanced offer with GPS navigation system). The completely redesigned MDX became available in autumn 2006 with the V6 300Ã, hp (220Ã, kW) and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive engines.
2007-present: ILX, TLX, RLX, RDX, MDX, ZDX
Acura reintroduced TL Type-S for the 2007 model year. 2009 marked all new TL and TSX models as well as mid-year model updates for RL; the three made their debut in calendar year 2008. Acura plans to redesign the RL in 2011 and announced the creation of a new luxury crossover vehicle called ZDX, previewed by the concept of the same name.
ZDX is the first Acura designed in the Acura design studio located in Torrance in Southern California. ZDX is designed by Michelle Christensen and based on Acura MDX using the vehicle it is 3.7 liter V6 engine (300 bhp) and SH-AWD system. A common misconception is that it is based on Honda Crosstour based on the Honda Accord rather than the larger and more complex MDX base. It is also the first fully developed Acura in North America. The ZDX production model debuted at the Orange County Auto Show in Southern California on October 15, 2009. The concept behind the ZDX is that it is a "four-door coupe," and the car body's design emphasis is like "snap back." Another prominent design aspect of the ZDX is the wide rear shoulder on the rear wheels. ZDX went on sale in December 2009.
Acura initially had plans for the third generation RL to be the rear-wheel drive V8 sedan for its flagship, but suspended plans in the wake of the 2008 economic downturn.
Acura announced the new TSX wagon at the New York Auto Show 2010 and this car will go on sale in fall 2010. The TSX wagon version is based on a version of the Honda Accord Euro-spec wagon that has been in the European Market for some time. However, Acura has not announced any plans for a third-generation RL.
For the 2010 model year, the MDX model received slight exterior changes and increased equipment levels. Mechanically the engine remains unchanged but the transmission has been updated from the previous 5-speed to 6-speed including steering column mounted shift override paddles. This new transmission is shared with ZDX.
In 2012, Acura introduced a new model called ILX that relies heavily on the Honda Civic platform. It shares the same 3 power train variants of the Civic: 2.0L, 2.4L VTEC and 1.5L Hybrid. It also launched the Acura RLX Concept, a replacement for the RL sedan, at the New York International Auto Show. ILX goes on sale in May 2012 in the United States as a 2013 model.
Also in 2012, Acura "reinvented" another model, the RDX Concept. For the new model, Acura lowered the 4 cylinder turbo for the 3.5L V6. When the official 2013 Acura RDX was released, it was relatively similar to the concept but had a change in wheels, rear lights, and some other cosmetics. Many of these Acura look like his brother, ILX. RDX 2013 does not have a SH-AWD system but has "AWD with intelligent control", similar to the AWD CR-V system. RDX is now available with BASE, BASE AWD, TECH., And TECH AWD.
In 2013, Acura shows the 2014 MDX Concept. Shortly after, it was released to the public. MDX competes with Lexus RX, Audi Q7, and many others. For the first time, American MDX 2014 buyers do not have to get the SH-AWD model since Acura released the MDX FWD model. However Canada will have SH-AWD with MDX standard model due to weather conditions. This model also gets Jewel Eye LED lights similar to RLX. Level trim BASE, TECH, TECH AND ENTERTAINMENT, and ADVANCE AND ENTERTAINMENT. All of these can be equipped with SH-AWD.
For the 2014 RDX model. Acura drops the color of Amber Brownstone which is really popular for Kona Coffee Metallic from CR-V. The new color is a little darker. Changes to ILX 2014 include a dropped 1.5L engine and the skin is now standard on all trims.
In December 2013, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Acura launched a version of the SH-AWD Sport Hybrid from the RLX flagship sedan. It will be the most powerful and technologically advanced vehicle in Acura history. This advanced vehicle will be standard with a 3.5L V6 310-horsepower engine and a pair of electric motors (one for each shaft) that produce a combined 377 horsepower through a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The first Acura technology in 2014 The RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD also includes a selector of electronic equipment that replaces conventional shift levers installed in the center of the console with an efficient packaged push button arrangement that allows the driver to easily select the desired mode - Park, Drive and Reverse , as well as Sport and Normal drive modes. The new RLX Sport Hybrid will go on sale in mid-2014.
In January 2014, at the Detroit Auto Show, Acura launched the all-new 2015 TLX sport sedan. This new vehicle will replace the TSX and TL sedans that are immediately stopped. The TLX in 2.4-liter is equipped with a new dual-speed dual-speed dual-speed DCT transmission from Acura. Meanwhile, the high-end 3.5-liter V6 model will come with a new nine-speed transmission and Super-Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). TLX goes on sale in Summer 2014.
In 2015, Acura redesigned the ILX for the 2016 model year. Now with a 2.4L 8-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) instead of the 2.0L 5-speed and 2.4L manual. Added are Acura Jewel Eye LED light signatures, LED taillights, updated wheels, suspension modifications, bumper redesigns, and new packages such as the AcuraWatch Package (including adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, lane keeping assist systems, road departure countermeasures, and front collision) warning) and A-Spec (sportier appearance). Changing the color of Fathom Blue is Catalina Blue Pearl.
Also redesigned is the 2016 RDX. Displayed at the same 6LL auto speed with some minor adjustments for hp/torque efficiency and boost. RDX gets Acura Jewel LED Eye Treatment as well. New suspension added to "solve" failure model 2013-2015. New Advance packages are being offered with enhanced wheel enhancements, parking sensors (front and rear), rain-absorbing glass, auto-dim mirrors, long-range start, ventilated seats and fog lamps. Acura makes the foglight option for lower trims like the Technology Package and Premium. AcuraWatch is now also offered across the line.

Racing
Almost from the beginning, Acura has been involved in American motor sport, especially at Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and IMSA GT Championship series. Beginning in 1991, Acura reached an agreement with Comptech Racing to use the new Acura V6 NSX motor in Camt Lights Spice's proprietary Comptech prototype. Acura will continue to take the Lights championship in its early years, including class wins at 24 Hours of Daytona. Acura and Comptech will take the Lights Championship again in 1992 and 1993, as well as another Daytona class victory in 1992 and a class victory at 12 Jam Sebring for 1993.
But a change in the IMSA rules would cause Camel's Lights to die, so Acura moved into auto racing, joined Realtime Racing at SCCA World Challenge with NSX in 1996, winning the last two races of the season. In 1997, Acura added Acura Integras to the lower classes, and managed to take the championship in both classes. Realtime took the tour championship with Integra again in 1998, and came within a few points to win again in 1999 only to lose in the last race, then again regained the title in 2000.
Although Realtime had abandoned the NSX program in 1998, the NSX returned to the top class in 2001. Although the NSX squad suffered mechanical woes and could not take over the title, Integras from the tour class once again took the team championship. In 2002, Acura replaced the old Integra with the new Acura RSX in the final race of the season, scoring a great finish in their debut. At the same time, Acura has finally stopped NSX from the top GT class. RSX will then join the new Acura TSX in 2004. Realtime continues to campaign RSX and TSX in the SCCA Speed ââWorld Challenge. Acura is also currently racing RSXs and TSXs at the KONI Challenge Series of the Grand American Road Racing Association for sports cars.
At the 2006 Detroit Auto Show in 2006, Acura announced their plans to enter the American Le Mans Series with some Le Mans prototype teams in the LMP2 class from 2007 season. The cars will be purchased from the existing chassis manufacturer but use Acura V8 made in America (the first for Acura and Honda). Acura also announced their initiative to bring the car to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2008 and eventually moved to the superior LMP1 class with a car built by Acura itself in 2009. Then in 2006, Acura announced that three factory teams will become Andretti Green Racing , FernÃÆ'ández Racing, and Highcroft Racing, and that the chassis will be built by Lola Cars of the UK and Courage Compà © à © tition of France.
Three Acura-powered prototypes debuted in the 12th 12 Jam Sebring, which was the opening round of the ALMS season, and succeeded in their debut. Andretti Green's Acura finished second overall and first in the LMP2 class, while FernÃÆ'ández Racing took third overall, and Highcroft sixth, beating a series of established Porsche teams in their class. At the same time, Acura began developing their own chassis by modifying the massively purchased Courage chassis. The cars have now changed radically from their original orientation so now they are named Acura ARX-01a. Acura will introduce the B-spec car that evolved in the 2008 season, with Gil de Ferran launching the fourth Acura team in ALMS.
In 2009, Acura produced its first LMP1 car, the Acura ARX-02a.
In 2010, Honda rebadged all prototype Acura as Honda Performance Development (HPD) cars, and announced that all future prototypes (such as HPD ARX-03) will be built under the name of HPD.
Acura does not participate in motor sports again until 2013, where the Acura ILX is unofficially included in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill by Honda engineers. The car will retire from the race due to engine trouble.
Acura ILX returns to Thunderhill for the race 25 hours 2014. This time the car won its class and finished 8th overall.
Marketing
The Acura logo, introduced in 1990 for the 1991 model, is, according to Honda, the caliper - a design tool used for measuring that can also be construed as a "H" (for Honda) or "A" (for Acura). The logo that was originally authorized without Soichiro Honda's approval did not contain a small horizontal bar that joined the two vertical pillars - so, it did not form the letter "H". Soichiro Honda ordered 5,000 badges already manufactured to be destroyed, including prying out emblems applied to 309 cars (Integra, Legend, and NSX spec AS models).
Acura's marketing slogan is "Precision Crafted Performance." Recent models include Technology trim levels, Upgrade, Type-S, and SH-AWD. Advanced technologies and models usually come with the latest hi-tech features such as a keyless start and blind spot information system. The Type-S and SH-AWD models are performance-oriented, with substantial increases in horsepower compared to lower trim levels. Some models, such as TL, also incorporate trim levels (ie "SH-AWD with Advance").
Acura started an association with Marvel Entertainment in 2010, after releasing the film Iron Man 2, which featured ZDX after the final credits. On April 20, 2011, Acura and Marvel announced a promotional campaign, making Acura the official brand of fiction Marvel S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. Soon after, several Acura models - such as MDX, ZDX, RL, and TL - appear in the movies Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger . In the film 2012, The Avengers, Iron Man (played by Robert Downey, Jr.) rides an exotic sports car by Acura, made especially for the movie, rather than the Audi R8 he had previously driven. It is rumored that the car seen while shooting is a concept for the second generation NSX, however, a different-looking Acura NSX 2012 concept was introduced at the North American International Auto Show, on January 9, 2012.
From 1995 to 2007, Acura sponsors two WTA Tour tennis tournaments, both named Acura Classic.
In 2012, Acura became the sponsor and official vehicle of the Sundance Film Festival.
Acura also has a 'Mobility Program' that ensures disabled drivers are safe in their vehicles. The program offers cash reimbursement for the cost of adaptive equipment for disabled drivers.
