Riwayat band

Self-titled dan Hey You, I Love Your Soul (1996-99)

Skillet was formed in 1996 with two members: John Cooper, former vocalist for Tennessee progressive band Seraph and Ken Steorts, former Urgent Cry guitarist. The two bands met through the tour together, but the bands broke up soon after, so pastor John and Ken encouraged them to form their own band as a side project. They decided to name the 'Skillet' experiment. After that, Trey McClurkin joined the band as a temporary drummer. Skillets are only together for a month when they receive interest from major Christian recording labels ForeFront Records. In 1996 they released their self-titled Skillet debut. It was well received, and the trio continued to write new material as they toured the United States.

The question behind the band name, 'Skillet', often appears among fans and the band itself. John Cooper, lead vocalist and founder, explained that the name was a joke at first. The two founding members are already in different bands, with each band having different sounds and styles for the music. Cooper says that a side project is said to be like putting all the styles in a large skillet to produce something unique, hence the band name 'Skillet'. The band's name is still a bit of a joke between band members, especially Cooper, who claims he still does not like the title.

Wok recorded their follow-up album during 1997, titled Hey You, Aku Cinta Your Soul , released in April 1998. Their second attempt was a change in style from the band's first release. With this release, Skillet will abandon their post-grunge approach to alternative rock and lighter styles. His wife, Korey, was listed immediately after playing the keyboard directly to reduce the tasks of John's live performance.

Invincible , Ardent Worship , and Alien Youth (2000-02)

Shortly before the band began recording for their third album, Invincible, Steorts left the band to be with his family and started Visible Music College, a modern music college located in Memphis, and Kevin Haaland joined the band as a new guitarist they. Korey Cooper joins the band permanently and plays the keyboard for Invincible recordings. Due to this change, the music style on Invincible turns into a more electronic sound. Immediately after the Invincible release in early 2000, Trey McClurkin parted ways with Skillet, and Lori Peters filled the drummer's position.

The band released their first worship album, and their fourth full album, Ardent Worship at the end of 2000. The band kept a lot of their votes from Invincible on their next album Alien Youth . With little time between touring and recording, Skillet released Alien Youth on August 28, 2001, which was the first album John Cooper took on production. Before the release of Alien Youth , Haaland left the band, and Ben Kasica took over the guitar.

Crash (2003-05)

In 2003, Collide , the band's sixth studio album, was released by Ardent Records and contained the singles "Savior" and "Collide". In 2004, the rights to Collide were purchased by Lava Records, a trail from Atlantic Records. On May 25, 2004, Collide was re-released by Lava Records, with "Open Wounds" as an additional song. The album was nominated for "Best Rock Gospel Album" in 2005.

To quote P.O.D. as an inspiration for the musical shift in Collide, Cooper said, "I am one of these songwriters, everything I hear through my John Cooper filter about what I love and what I do not like. [...] All these things [...] have influenced me. "
