James Wayne Stafford (born January 16, 1944) is an American comedian, musician, and singer-writer. While prominent in the 1970s for his notes "Spiders & Snakes", "Swamp Witch", "Under Skotsman Skies", "My Girl Bill", and "Wildwood Weed", Stafford has performed at his own theater in Branson, Missouri. , since 1990. Stafford studied self-taught on guitar, rebab, piano, banjo, organ and harmonica.

Initial years
Stafford grew up in Winter Haven, Florida. In high school, he played in a band along with friends Bobby Braddock, Kent LaVoie (also known as Lobo) and Gram Parsons (from Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers).

Record history
Stafford's first chart chart was "Swamp Witch", produced by Lobo, who broke the US Top 40 in July 1973. On March 2, 1974, his biggest blow, "Spider & Snake", peaked at No. 1. 3 on Billboard Hot 100, sold over two million copies, produced a gold disc by the RIAA that month. Stafford continued to have moderate chart success through most of 1975.

Although the first appearance of Stafford television was not until 1974 at an event called Rock Concert which aired in the UK, many remembered it from The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour revival event, NBC in 1988, where he is credited as the supervising author.
The Jim Stafford Show is a six-week summer variation series featured on ABC from 30 July 1975 ( 1975-07-30 ) until September 3 , 1975 ( 1975-09-03 ) . It features Valerie Curtin, Richard Stahl, Deborah Allen, Cyndi Wood and Gallagher, and is co-produced by Tony Scotti. Stafford, Rod Warren, April Kelly, and Pat Proft were among the authors in this series.
Stafford appeared several times in music specials, variety shows, and talk shows. She is a frequent guest on The Tonight Show. He hosted the Amazing Animals with Burgess Meredith and Priscilla Presley from 1980 to 1981, and also hosted 56 episodes of Nashville on the Road.
In 1976, Stafford starred in guest stars in two episodes of Gemini Man, which later merged into a TV movie called Riding with Death. She also guested on "The Understudy" episode on The Love Boat.
Songwriting
Stafford contributed to several movie soundtracks. He received a gold record for his work in the Disney movie, The Fox and the Hound . He wrote "Cow Patti" for the Clint Eastwood film Anywhere Way You Can and appeared in the movie. His work has been covered by George Jones and Jerry Reed. Her second classical guitar album, Somewhere in Time, appeared in March 2002. Her latest comedy album is Do not Tell Mama I'm A Guitar Picker, She Thinks I'm Just In Prison At in 2010, he produced and recorded his first Christmas album, A Guitar For Christmas .
Live show
Stafford has been operating and performing at the Jim Stafford Theater in Branson, Missouri since 1990. His sons, Sheaffer and GG, accompanied him on stage. Stafford is also currently on tour during the winter.
Personal life
In the late 1970s, Stafford married briefly with singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry and they had a son, Tyler Gentry Stafford. Stafford also married Ann Britt Stafford for 24 years. He became owner of Jim Stafford Theater in Branson, Missouri, until December 2013. In 2018 Jim performs three nights a week at The Jim Stafford Theater in Branson. The shows are Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm
