History
Arthur G. Rocheford is the son of William M. Rocheford, co-owner of the brick-making company and general contractor Rocheford & amp; Gould. The company's brick factory operation is located on Thirteenth Street and Frederick, and the family's large brick home is on 2423 South 18th Street. The Arthur Rocheford location opted for its plamban business to be within walking distance of both locations. Although Rocheford & amp; Gould was dissolved in 1906, William Rocheford continued his construction business with his sons, building a family rental property and a larger number of projects. Coming from such a construction-oriented family, it is not surprising that Arthur would choose to act as a general contractor during the construction of his own building.
The Arthur G. Rocheford Building is built of red bricks in Italian style. This retains the first floor cast iron column with a double entrance inset with a window above the transom window. The building is built with small tin cornices with corbelled bricks and a stringer course. The interior details include oak floors and tin ceilings that are pressed on the main level.
In addition to building the Arthur G. Rocheford pipeline business, it has also become home for jewelers, mail ordering businesses, shoemakers, dry cleaners, painting businesses and carpet traders. The building is the headquarters of Emerging Terrain, a non-profit organization devoted to community development and creatively informs civil and urban planning, but the organization sells the building in April 2014. The building is currently home to DeOld Andersen Architecture, emerging architecture and urban design practice originally founded in New York City.
